Durtlang Triumphs Despite Being a Man Down

In the quarter-finals of the LBS Suzuki 22nd Inter Branch YMA Football Tournament, Durtlang defeated Kawnpui Vengthar.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw after regular time, leading to extra time where no goals were scored. The winner was decided by a penalty shootout, where Durtlang’s goalkeeper Hlutea saved all shots, and Durtlang successfully converted all their penalties, securing a 3-0 victory in the shootout.

Durtlang started the match strongly, creating several dangerous goal-scoring opportunities. However, Kawnpui Vengthar capitalized on their first clear chance to take the lead.

In the 15th minute, Tluangpuia scored a stunning goal from outside the box, finding the top corner to give Kawnpui Vengthar a 1-0 lead.

Durtlang pushed back relentlessly, and Felkima took a shot from the edge of the box, which struck the Kawnpui Vengthar crossbar.

Kawnpui Vengthar converted their second clear chance into a goal. While Albert was carrying the ball, Ricky fouled him, earning Kawnpui Vengthar a free kick.

Bta took the free kick, which Durtlang’s goalkeeper Hlutea punched away, but Hriatpuia followed up and scored from near the penalty spot, giving Kawnpui Vengthar a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The second half began, and in the 50th minute, Tluangpuia fouled Joseph inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Chungnunga converted the penalty, pulling one back for Durtlang to make it 2-1.

In the 55th minute, Ricky committed another foul and received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card and his dismissal, leaving Durtlang to play with ten men.

Despite being a man down, Durtlang continued to fight. They pushed forward to equalize, and in the 73rd minute, they succeeded.

On the left flank, Isaac skillfully carried the ball, evaded three defenders, and delivered a cross. Felkima, positioned in the 6-yard box, easily scored, leveling the score at 2-2.

As the match neared its end, both teams had chances to win. Felkima’s excellent cross from the left was met by Joseph, but the Kawnpui Vengthar goalkeeper made a save, preventing the goal.

Kawnpui Vengthar also came close to scoring. Bta’s corner was headed by Puia, but Durtlang’s goalkeeper Hlutea made a crucial save.

Regular time ended, and extra time was played, but no goals were scored. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Durtlang’s goalkeeper Hlutea saved shots from Bta, Rinrina, and Albert, while Durtlang converted all their penalties, winning 3-0 in the shootout.
